Day 23 Post Op

Big Day 23 Post Op Update

Sorry its late TEAM but here we go!

Well, today was another good day. This morning we were able to get Delaney to sit upright in her high chair and eat breakfast. This is the first time she has actually picked up her chocolate milk and drank it on her own! And of course 7:30am we were making laps around the 10th floor! Her neurosurgeon came in and said her incision looks great! Monday is still the chemo start date. The nurses are letting us push all of her meds through her NG tube to get used to it. We may even have to replace the NG tube if it comes out while we are at home. (Yikes). Grandma and Grandpa came out today. Grandma even got Delaney to laugh and color in her minnie coloring book! All of the nurses we have are chemo certified so we have been asking as many questions as possible. It's a lot of information to take in, but we will get the hang of it. Delaney upgraded to a big girl bed, so now one of us can sleep with her, which she likes! (And we do too!!) They started her on night time tube feeds to make sure she is getting enough pre-chemo. Gatorade comes in a can here at the hospital, so we told her it was "soda". She had 2 "sodas" today and loved them! Here at kaiser Oakland they have this great program called Beads of Courage. It's a really neat way for kids to tell their story of hope, strength and courage. This will correlate with her earlier update. You should look it up if you have time. Delaney gets a bead for each X-ray, blood draw, night in the hospital, etc. www.beadsofcourage.org Delaney is passed out cold. She actually fell asleep in daddy's arms tonight, that hasn't happened in weeks, and daddy took full advantage! We love you all and thank you for your support! GO TEAM DELANEY!!

Quote of the day "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the Rain!"

I know we shared an update on all of the tests, nights and hardships Delaney has experienced since we have been here, but a few funny facts. Delaney has probably drank at least 600ml of chocolate milk in the past 2 weeks. We have probably done 100+ laps around the 10th floor. At least 5 miles a day (no joke) I have probably tucked her arms and legs back in her blanket over 1000 times in the past 2 weeks. (She does this on purpose and most of the time it is at 4am). She has gone through at least 20 packs of stickers and has about 100 packs in reserve. We have watched Despicable Me 5 times today and Monster Inc 3 times. We were lucky enough to squeeze in Toy Story 3 twice! Between Merlin and I we drink about 1/2 gallon of coffee a day! (We are keeping Starbucks in business).
